Being a female wedding photographer can be really challenging. After all, you are in a man’s world. Although the advent of women empowerment and gender equality has been around for quite a while now, it does not mean that the stigma of wedding photographers being expected to be a predominantly male occupation has completely been eradicated.
Although this is not something that people will really be paying too much attention to at the end of the day, you need to make sure that you still carry your own weight the entire time that you are attending the wedding as a wedding photographer.
Stay away from anything too revealing or anything that exposes too much skin.
As a wedding photographer, your goal should be to blend in with the background and to by unnoticed as much as possible. You will not be able to pull something like this off if you are dressed in something that raises eyebrows or calls the attention of the men. Keep it modest and cover up. It does not mean that you cannot dress up in flair. You will still be able to dress yourself tastefully without showing too much skin in the process.
Don’t wear heels.
This is a fashion decision that you will instantly regret during your first 2 hours or so in the wedding. You will be spending most of your time standing, running, walking, or even crawling and crouching as a wedding photographer. You will not be able to do all of these things comfortably if your movements are encumbered with the aspect of wearing heels all throughout the time that you are there. Sure, they look good but then again, what comes after that? You will spend most of your time there feeling annoyed and grumpy and regretful of your shoe choice and that is not the kind of thing that you will end up looking forward to as a professional wedding photographer.
Just think of the fact that you will be living in your shoes for about 10 hours or so.
If you are going to end up wearing those shoes for an extended period of time, then you might as well make sure that you opt for something that is comfortable enough to be in. Your feet will not be able to thank you enough for the foresight at the end of the day. Do yourself a favor and just opt out of the heels completely. It will not do anything for you as a wedding photographer.
Go for comfortable looking clothes.
You need clothes that look great and feel great as well. Stay away form the suffocating bandeau dresses and tight clothes. You will be caught up in crazy looking positions as a female wedding photographer. You might as well make sure that you are dressed well enough for it. Try to stay away from wearing skirts at all if you can avoid it. Business slacks are a great choice and they are things that will get to work with almost all of the dress codes out there.
